About Mount Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro in Tanzania rises to 5,895 m at Uhuru Peak. It is a dormant volcano with three cones and is the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, rising straight from the plains instead of from a range.
It was first climbed in 1889. Its summit glaciers have shrunk dramatically over the last century, and thousands of people now hike it each year without ropes.
