About Mount Everest
Mount Everest on the border of Nepal and China stands at 8,849 m after a joint survey announced in 2020. Climbers first reached the top in 1953. Above about 8,000 m the thin air is so low in oxygen that climbers call it the death zone.
Air pressure on the summit is about a third of what it is at sea level. The mountain is still rising by a few millimetres a year as the tectonic plates keep pushing.
Mount Everest in Clamber
You reach this landmark at 265 points. It is landmark 8 of the 21 between the ground and the Moon, which waits at 930 points. Its real height is about 1.5 times that of the previous landmark, Mount Kilimanjaro.
Answers are worth 0 to 100 points depending on how rare they are, so even a run of nothing but the rarest answers needs at least 3 holds to get here. A fall drops you to just below the last landmark you passed, so a landmark you have reached can slip away again. See how to play for the full rules.
