About Eiffel Tower
The tower was finished in 1889 as the entrance arch of the Paris World's Fair. It was 312 m when it opened; the antennas added later bring it to 330 m. For about 40 years it was the tallest structure on Earth.
It is made of wrought iron and is repainted every few years. In hot weather the metal expands and the top grows by several centimetres.
