About Statue of Liberty
The 93 m measured here runs from the ground to the tip of the torch. The statue alone is about 46 m tall; the pedestal and foundation make up the rest. France gave it to the United States and it was dedicated in 1886.
Its copper skin is only a couple of millimetres thick. It was once shiny and brown; decades of weather turned it green. Visitors can climb to the crown, but the torch has been closed since 1916.
